Seeds to Mount Everest

In the Spring of 2008, Justin Merle of International Mountain Guides carried 5,000 sunflower seeds donated by Mckenzie Seeds to the top of Mount Everest. The slopes of Mount Everest are considered some of the harshest climates on Earth where little grows and temperatures can rise and fall by up to 40 degrees in a matter of minutes.

Students from across Canada and the United States tracked the progress of the seeds during the trek to Everest. Jeff's vision was to use this extreme ascent to spark an interest in students and develop a life long appreciation for gardening.

Upon return to Canada the seeds were delivered by Brinks armoured truck and under guard of Ontario Provincial Police, to Winchester Public School. This was a first in gardening history. The seeds were then distributed for planting to students at Winchester, Morrisburg and Kinsmen / Vincent Massey Schools as well as a number of other schools in Canada and the United States.

Seeds to the North Pole

Robert Russell of Eagles Cry Adventures embarked upon an expedition carrying with him 5000 Sunflower Seeds to the North Pole. Students around the globe now have an opportunity to see if the extreme, sub-zero temperatures have caused growing defects to the plant.Contact us for your free Sunflowseeds!  http://www.eaglescry.com

Seeds on a Top Secret Mission

(Morrisburg) - It was an afternoon of secret agents, security guards, and armoured cars.

Students at Morrisburg Public School emerged from the building Wednesday to find two provincial police cruisers, a Brinks truck and a jet- black SUV - all guarding a secret package carried though the depths of the Atlantic by a Canadian submarine. The package bearing the emblem of the Royal Canadian Navy - contained about 5,000 sun spot sunflower seeds that were placed aboard the Canadian submarine HMCS Windsor in February 2009. The submarine patrolled the coast off Virginia as part of a special American-Canadian naval task force.

They were placed on the vessel as part of Project Greenman, a program led by Winchester Public School Educational Assistant Jeff Arsenault. The seeds will be distributed to children at the school who will plant them as part of a giant science experiment to test whether exposure to the pressures of the ocean depths affect the 'seeds' growth

Seeds In Space

Jeff's seeds will have been sent to Nepal, to the North Pole and to a top-secret destination somewhere in the wide world. He had to ask himself what extreme locations of excitement were left. It might come as no surprise to all of you that he next explored the idea of seeds going into Space. A fantastic opportunity came to light and we are proud to announce our seeds will travel with Brian Binnie on the world's first commercial Space flight. Imagine the adventures that these seeds will have. Stay tune for the details as the adventure unfolds.
